Stroschein, Lawrence Joseph
Lawrence Joseph Stroschein was born the son of Henry and Lucy (Tujetsch) Stroschein on June 29, 1918, in Garnavillo Township. He died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, at the Guttenberg Care Center from a long illness. Funeral services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Garnavillo, with the Rev. Marvin Bries officiating. Interment will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Garnavillo. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Garnavillo, with a rosary service at 4 p.m. Friends may also call one hour before service time Wednesday at the church.
Lawrence received his education locally and farmed for most of his life. On April 4, 1945, he was united in marriage with Bernadette Schmelzer. To this union they were blessed with 10 children. Lawrence was a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus and a trustee at St. Joseph Catholic Church for 26 years. He enjoyed playing cards, wood working, trout fishing and farming but his greatest joy was his family.
Lawrence is survived by his wife, Bernadette; 10 children, Joyce Tonkin, Judy (Ed) Sevcik, Larry (Nancy) Stroschein, Louis (Deb) Stroschein, Jean (Don) Storms, Lee (Becky) Stroschein, Joanne (Rick) Digiantonio, Janice (Troy) Martin, Lenny (Cheryl) Stroschein and Sandi (George) Storbeck; 38 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; one sister, Odelia Matt; and one brother, Francis (Amy) Stroschein.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Anita Johnson; and two brothers, Cyrenus and August.
In lieu of flowers, plants, and all other gifts, memorials may be directed to the family of Lawrence Stroschein.
