Striley, Dean Frederick

Dean Frederick Striley of Brooklyn, Iowa, passed away at the Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown on Monday, Aug. 26, 2013. A Celebration of Life will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, at the Toledo American Legion, 109 N. Main, Toledo.

Dean was born Nov. 28, 1938, the son of Milo and Blanche (Stevenson) Striley of Toledo, Iowa. He graduated from Toledo High School in 1956. He attended Iowa State University and began employment at Rockwell Collins in 1959, where he retired after 35 years of service in 1994. At that time he moved from Cedar Rapids to his home at Holiday Lake, Brooklyn, Iowa. He was a retired member of IBEW-Local 1362 and was a former president and secretary of IATSE - Local 191. For several years he was a stage hand at the 5 Seasons Theater and the Paramount Theatre. While in high school he was a projectionist at the Wieting Theater in Toledo and also at several theaters in Cedar Rapids.

Dean was an amateur radio operator, K0RN since his teenage years. He was a member of the Benton County Radio Club and the 80 Meter Iowa net.

Surviving Dean are two sisters, Barbara (Bruce) Muecke of Toledo and Shirley Secrist of Kaysville, Utah; one nephew, Christopher (Diane) Bearden of Tama; five nieces, Rebecca (Dan) Gross of Orlando, Fla., Amy (Lyle) Henle of Toledo, Cindy (B J) Epperly of Tama, Julie (Joe) Lythgoe and Michele (Dean) Wall of Utah; and special friends, Michael Colburn and Jane Beres of Brooklyn.

Preceding him in death were his parents and an infant brother, Merle.
