Strauss, Ernest C.
Ernest C. Strauss, 95, of Creston, Iowa, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at the Creston Nursing and Rehab Center, Creston. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Saturday, May 19, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion, by Rev. John Gossman. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Marion, with a vigil service at 6 p.m. Burial: Campbell Cemetery, rural Cedar Rapids, with military honors by American Legion Post #727.
Survivors include sons, Paul (Barb) Strauss of Cedar Rapids, Randy (Kay) Strauss of Marion, and Perry (Brenda) Strauss of Creston; daughter-in-law, Chrys Strauss of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Cari (Roy John) Becker, Bryan (Michele) Strauss, Corey (Jen) Strauss, Matthew (fiancee Becca) Strauss and Stacey (Dustin) Stark; and nine great-grandchildren.
Ernest Charles Strauss was born May 8, 1917, in Falls City, Neb., the son of Charles Albert Strauss and Hulda Rebecca Siebenniecher. Soon after Dec. 7, 1941, Ernest joined the United States Navy and served four years. He later graduated from the Peru Teacher's College in 1945. On June 8, 1947, Ernest was united in marriage to Marian Lou Deck in Peru, Neb. Ernest taught Industrial Arts in Audubon, Grinnell, Olin and Marion, until retiring in 1982 at which time they moved to Prescott Valley, Ariz. On Dec. 4, 1985, his wife, Marian, passed away. On Oct. 27, 1986, he was united in marriage to Doris Sullivan in Prescott Valley, Ariz. Doris passed away on May 13, 1998. In 2004, he moved to Creston.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Marian; second wife, Doris; and oldest son, Richard.
