Strand, M. Marian
M. Marian Strand, 88, of Coal Valley, Ill., formerly of La Crosse, Wis., and Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, in her home.Services are 11 a.m. Nov. 26, 2010, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 2420 41st St., Moline, Ill. The family will greet friends at a luncheon at the church following the service. Memorials may be made to the church. Memorials may be made to All Saints Episcopal Church. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, is entrusted with arrangements.
The former Maisie Marian Knox was born May 14, 1922, in Ardlethan, New South Wales, Australia, the youngest daughter of Frederick and Emily Ponting Knox. She married Donald V. Strand on June 3, 1944, in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In 1945, after waiting a year for a boat from Australia, she joined her husband in La Crosse, Wis. They lived there until 1973, when they retired to Fallbrook, Calif. Don died Feb. 6, 1998. She has resided with her daughter, Barbara, since 2003.
She had been a member of Ruth Chapter No. 23, Order of Eastern Star and Social Order of Beauceant Chapter No. 215, both in LaCrosse, for over 50 years. She enjoyed tennis, golf and gardening.
Marian is survived by two daughters, Barbara Bevauns of Coal Valley, and Diane Willis and her husband, Zachary of Nice, Calif.; five grandchildren and their spouses, Scott and Traci Hesselberg, Jason and Amber Hesselberg, Nicole and Jeff Norton, Erin Snyder and Francis and Jodi Baker; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and nine siblings.
