Strahl, Jean Ann (Tindell)
Jean Ann (Tindell) Strahl, 73, of Guttenberg, died Monday, July 2, 2012, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
She was born Sept. 10, 1938, in Bagley, Wis., the daughter of Russell E. and Lucille (Fabert) Tindell. Jean attended elementary school in Clayton, Iowa, and graduated from the Garnavillo High School. She later received her nursing degree from NICC. On June 20, 1959, Jean was united in marriage with Francis “Abe” Strahl at Peace Lutheran Church in Clayton. This union blessed them with three children.
Jean was the most loving and caring mom, grandma, sister, aunt and friend. Family was the most important thing in her life. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren, never missing any of their activities.
Her favorite pasttimes were going to casinos with her family and spending time with her sisters. Jean worked at the Guttenberg Care Center for nearly 30 years doing what she did best, caring for others.
Jean is survived by her three children, Jeff Strahl of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Robin (Chad) Esmann and Becky (Scott) Kelly, both of Guttenberg; eight grandchildren, Alisha, Trevor, Dustin, Kayla Kelly, Carter and Alexandra Esmann, Jennifer Kramer and Madison Strahl; six great-grandchildren, Sean, Mason, Draven, Ashton, Roman and Ryan Rae; siblings, Peggy (Joe) Helle of Garnavillo, Betty (Louis) Helle of Cedar Rapids and Cindy (Doug) Rowland of Ely; brother-in-law, Harlan Harbaugh of Cedar Rapids; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Julia Ann in infancy; parents; brother, Russell G. Tindell; sister, Pat Harbaugh; and mother- and father-in-law, Alice and Kenneth Strahl.
Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 207 S. First St., Guttenberg, where the family will receive family and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. today. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 6, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Guttenberg, with the Rev. Shane Anderson officiating. Interment will be at Guttenberg City Cemetery.
