Stover, Bernice
Bernice Stover, 93, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011, at the Vinton Lutheran Home following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, at Phillips Family Center, 605 Second Ave., Vinton, where friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time. Interment will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Northlawn Memory Gardens in Iowa Falls.
Bernice was born March 2, 1917, in Conrad, Iowa, to John and Elizabeth (Hundertmark) Markwitz. She graduated from Conrad High School. On Janu. 8, 1937, she married Merle Stover in Missouri. He preceded her in death in August 1994.
Bernice was a member of the Methodist Church in Iowa Falls for over 50 years.
A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, she enjoyed cooking, quilting, and sewing for family and friends.
Survivors include her daughter, Claudette (Mert) Alpers of Vinton; her sons, Ronald (Jean) Stover of Norfolk, Va., and Jon (Mary) Stover of Iowa Falls; her grandchildren, Luann (Kurt) Karr of Vinton, Jolynn (Mike) Roths of Stevensville, Mont., Brent (Carrie) Stover of Florence, Ky., Kristin (Brian) Tidman of New Providence and Keith (Chrissie) Stover and Daryn (Jennifer) Stover of Norfolk, Va., and Cindy Stover (Carl Whelan) of Philadelphia, Pa.; her great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Darlene Markwitz of Conrad; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the Vinton Lutheran Home.
