Stoos, Joseph L.
Joseph L. Stoos, 79, of Marion, died Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, after a brief illness. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at American Legion Post 298 in Marion, where there also will be military rites. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and at the Marion American Legion Hall from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon; a son, Mike (Kelly) Stoos of Altoona; a stepson, Ron (Ronda) Geater of Plainfield, Ill.; a daughter, Sandy (Alan) Wright of Marion; a stepdaughter, Kim (Dave) Friederich of Mount Vernon; two brothers, Don (Betty) and Phil (Mickey); and one sister, Esther Wright. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Tiffany; his triplet brother, James, and sister, Joann; brother, Dennis; and two sisters, Patty and Bernadine.
Joe was born June 29, 1933, in Alton, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Loretta (Miller) Stoos. He married LaVerne Sohler on June 9, 1956, in Yankton, S.D. She died in 1977. He later married Sharon L. Streeper on June 28, 1980, in Marion.
Joe was a test foreman at Rockwell-Collins and retired from there after 33 years of service.
He was a past commander of the Marion American Legion Post 298, member of the VFW and proudly served in the Air Force during the Korean War.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working crossword puzzles and especially the time he spent with his beloved family and many friends.
A memorial fund has been established in Joe's name.
