Stoner, Gary Douglas

Gary Douglas Stoner, 64, of Urbandale and formerly of Cedar Rapids died Saturday, July 23, 2011, following an extended illness. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Cemetery, 4200 First Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Following the graveside service, the family will be returning to Des Moines.

Gary was born July 24, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Walter and Kathryn Stoner. After high school he attended the University of Iowa for two years. He married Judy Mefford in 1966. Gary was a technician for Northwestern Bell, US West and Qwest telephone companies. He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in West Des Moines and the CWA Local 7102.

Gary was an avid Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed nature, history trivia, birds and bird feeders, and his family.

Gary is survived by his wife, Judy; daughters, Heather (Dan) Huppert of Minnesota and Deborah (Chad) Mejia of Colorado; four grandchildren; his parents, Walt and Kathryn; brother, David (Gail) of Colorado; and other relatives and friends.
