Stone, Leo Eugene 'Gene'
Leo Eugene (“Gene”) Stone, 88, passed away at the Veterans Home of California-Chula Vista on May 14, 2013.
He is survived by daughters Peggy Jean Stone and Audrey Laurel Steidl, both of San Diego, Calif.; and grandson, Niko Steidl; as well as by brother, James Stone of West Des Moines.
He was the son of Mary and Leo Stone of Washington, Iowa, and was predeceased by sister, Helen Moreland of Ames; and brother, Donald Stone of Winona, Minn.
Gene served in the Philippines in World War II and returned home to Cedar Rapids to marry Betty Sinclair and raise a family. He was later married to Marilyn St. John. He also lived in Marion, Manchester, Monona and Willmar, Minn., and retired to Albuquerque before his final years in California.
