Stodola, Evelyn M. Renken
CEDAR RAPIDS - Evelyn M. Renken Stodola, 86, of Evergreen Estates II, died there Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010, after a short illness. Memorial Mass: 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Jude Catholic Church. The Rev. Mark Reasoner will officiate. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Renken and her significant other, Wayne Slaughter, of Cedar Rapids and Julia (Gary Sr.) Rocarek of Vinton; a son, Bruce (Krys) Renken of Cedar Rapids; one sister, Carolyn Morrissey of Marion; three brothers, William (Dorothy) Farmer of Prairie du Chien, Wis., Robert (Betty) Farmer of Worthington and Patrick (Laura) Farmer of Strawberry Point; nine grandchildren; 15 great- grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Merle Jr.; a daughter, Mardelle; one sister, Jean Theel; and a grandson, Christopher.
Evelyn was born April 16, 1924, in Elkader, the daughter of Bryan and Luella Clinton Farmer. She married Merle Renken Sr. on Feb. 12, 1944, in Elkader. They were later divorced. She then married Clair J. Stodola on Nov. 26, 1971, in Marion. He died in 2003. Evelyn was a homemaker and a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and the VFW Auxiliary.
She enjoyed jig saw puzzles, playing cards, collecting owls and especially the time she spent with her beloved family.
A memorial fund has been established in Evelyn's name.
