Stickney, Danny Lee
Danny Lee Stickney, 63, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Marion, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Jan. 3, 2014. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at First Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 298 of Marion. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. Private family inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, will be held at a later date.
Survivors include his children, Sarah (Nick) Merrill of Marion and Michael Stickney of Cedar Rapids; his granddaughter, Olivia Merrill; his mother, Genevieve Stickney of Marion; his siblings, Tom (Shirley) Stickney of Marion, Jim (Jane) Stickney of North Liberty and Susan Stickney of St. Louis; his fiancee, Tami Behel of Cedar Rapids; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many close friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Stickney; and aunts and uncles, Ralph and Arlene Schultz and Chuck and Myrt Stickney.
Danny was born March 26, 1950, the son of Harold and Genevieve (Tanner) Stickney in Cedar Rapids. Upon graduation from Marion High School in 1969, Danny entered into military service and served at the War College in Pennsylvania before a tour of duty in Korea during the Vietnam War. He returned to the family business, Stickney's Scoreboard in 1971. Danny and Diane (Kummerer) Stickney were married in 1980 and together had two children, Sarah and Mike. For the last 11 years, Danny has been employed by Home Depot.
Danny enjoyed the outdoors, time aboard his boat or his Harley, and most importantly, time spent with his family. His pride and joy was his granddaughter, Olivia.
He always loved sharing a cold beer with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Danny's memory may be directed to Camp Courageous at PO Box 418, Monticello, IA 52310, or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at www.jdrf.org.
