Stewart, Pamela Mary Finlow

Pamela Mary Finlow Stewart died Friday night, July 13, 2012.

She was born Aug. 8, 1927, in London to Gladys Mummery Finlow and Percy Finlow, but she called Sandbach, Cheshire home. She graduated with honors in nursing and midwifery from the Middlesex Hospital in 1952. Pamela married Mark Armstrong Stewart on March 19, 1955, and emigrated to America in 1957.

Pamela loved turtles, Bassets, and gardening. She graduated from Washington University's Nurse Practitioner program in 1971 and was among the first nurse practitioners to work at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where she practiced in Pediatric Cardiology for nearly 20 years. Pamela was instrumental in the building of the Ronald McDonald House, served as board member and chair of her professional association, and cared for many, many children with heart problems.

In retirement Pamela cared for her beloved Mark, stricken with Alzheimer's disease; traveled to more than 20 countries, and volunteered with Project Green, the League of Women Voters, as a library book binder, radio reader, and was a very active member of the Oaknoll community.

Pamela was a loving mother to Sarah Tallman (Dennis) of North Liberty, Anne Fleagle (Steven) of Coralville, and Duncan Stewart (Rachel) of Iowa City; proud grandmother to Nick Tallman(Krystin), Daniel Tallman, ChristopherHeffner (Kathryn), all of North Liberty, Timothy and SamuelFleagle of Coralville, and Mara and Andrew Stewart of Iowa City; and devoted great-grandmother to Katelynn and Aiden Tallman. She is also survived by her brother, Michael Finlow and his wife, Bridget, of Sandbach, Chesire, England; her sister-in-law, Jill Finlow of North Wales; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and other family in England, Australia, and France.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and brothers, David and John.

A high tea to celebrate Pam's life is planned for family and friends on Sunday, Aug. 12, at 2 p.m. at South Slope Community Center in North Liberty.

In lieu of flowers, the Pamela Stewart Memorial Fund has been established.
