Stewart, Connie K. (Johnston)
CEDAR RAPIDS - Connie K. (Johnston) Stewart, 58, of 605 Oak Ridge Lane, Hemphill, TX 75948, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Sept. 29, 2010, in Houston. A memorial service will be Saturday, Oct. 9, at Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Bridge City, Texas, with the Rev. Mike Umbenhaur of First Presbyterian Church in Orange, Texas, officiating.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Ray “Chuck” Russell; stepson, Chuck Russell Jr., Sante Fe, N.M.; sister, Robin Lee, Houston; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Clarence Stewart; sister, Rachel Stewart; and brother, Bob Stewart.
Born June 23, 1952, in Burlington, Iowa, she graduated from Fort Madison, Iowa High School and Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids. Connie retired from the Iowa Department of Corrections in Cedar Rapids in 2003. She was active in Eastern Star, was a former president of Jaycees, and served as a board member for The History Center and Planned Parenthood.
