Steward, Robert C. 'Butch'
Robert C. “Butch” Steward, 74, of Wyoming, Iowa, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at his home. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, Nov. 27, at 10 a.m. at Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming, with Pastor Bob Wessels officiating. Family and friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lahey Funeral Home in Wyoming. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery, Davenport, with military honors.
Robert C. Steward was born May 9, 1935, in Donohue, Iowa, to Rudolph and Ella (Gronewold) Steward. He married Joyce J. Lafrenz on Nov. 27, 1954, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport. She preceded him in death on Jan. 16, 2006. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1962 with the rank of sergeant. He worked in the street department for the City of Davenport for 10 years, and at Caterpillar in Mount Joy in clerical and purchasing until he retired in 1989. He also farmed in the Blue Grass area.
He was a member of Zion American Lutheran Church and American Legion Wyoming Post 259, Wyoming. In earlier years, he served for the Scott County Sheriff's Mounted Patrol.
He is survived by a son, Michael (Angela) Steward of Wyoming; four grandchildren, Anthony, Daniel, Justin and Melissa; one sister, Millie Wallace of Eldridge; one brother, Bill (Judy) Steward of De Witt; one sister-in-law, Bernie Steward of Woodhull, Ill.; and brothers-in-law, Leonard (Eljean) Lafrenz, Dennis (Barb) Lafrenz and Clifford (Cathy) Lafrenz, all of Donohue.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; one son, Mark Charles on Jan. 7, 1983; and a brother, Ralph.
Memorials are preferred or may be given to Hospice of Jackson County or Zion American Lutheran Church.
