Steven "Steve" E. Rieger, 67, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Manor Care, Cedar Rapids. Memorial services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 4700 Johnson Ave. NW, with the Rev. Laurie Riley officiating. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his children, JonPaul (Katie) Cottrell of Inverness, Fla., Christine Vilardo of Marion, Laura (Travis) Burrows of Bloomington, Ill., and Andrea (Brent Frazier) Ramirez of Cedar Rapids; former wife of 33 years, Carmen Lilian Rieger of Cedar Rapids; 15 grandchildren; siblings, Joe (Kathy) Lalley of Cedar Rapids, Dianna Brandenburg of Oelwein, Darla Kuhens of Des Moines, and Dixie Olson, Dacia Fouts and Darin Dopp; many aunts and uncles, including a very special uncle, Nick (Beverly) Rieger of Texas.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Rieger; and daughter, Jacqueline Rieger.
Steve was born Jan. 3, 1947, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Kenneth Dopp and Patricia Rieger. After graduating from Jefferson High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Marines. In 1967, he married Geri Vilardo and they later divorced. In 1972, he married JoAnn Hart and they later divorced. Steve then married Carmen Lilian Sanchez in 1976 and they later divorced.
He was a mechanical draftsman for many years. Steve would enjoy telling people that he was finally accepted to the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine through donating his body to medical research.
Steve was a friend of Bill W.
He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
