Steven Jay Oakley, 90,
of Marion, died Saturday, April 19, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, at First United Methodist Church, Marion, by the Rev. Mike Morgan. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery,
Marion.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Virginia; four children, Nick (Ann) Oakley of Omaha, Neb., Virginia Oakley of Seattle, Wash., Darlene Powers of Milford and Tierney (Randy) Benesh of Marion; six grandchildren, Luke Oakley, Zack Oakley, Jennifer Horner, Kira Powers, Craig Hartle and Brett Hartle; and one great-granddaughter, Charlotte Horner.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 10 brothers and sisters.
Steve was born Dec. 2, 1923, in Marion, the son of George and Minnie (Grishaber) Oakley. On Sept. 9, 1950, he was united in marriage to Virginia Eden in Iowa City. Steve was a sales engineer and worked at Globe Machinery and Newell Electric. He was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Marion. Steve enjoyed golfing and fishing. He was a lifelong and dedicated Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan. He was a member and former commander of the American Legion in
Marion.
