Steven L. McNeil, 68, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Riverside, died Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at Iowa City VA Health Care System.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. July 3 at Oakland Church of the Nazarene in Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. David King. Burial with military honors: 2 p.m. at Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation: 9 to 10 a.m. July 3 at the church.
Surviving are his wife, Dana McNeil; children, Tiffany, Ryan, Scott and Steven; brother, Jeff McNeil; ex-wife, Deborah McNeil; and grandchildren, Liam, Carly, Holden, Tyler and Cade.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Steve was born May 16, 1949, in Geneva, Ill., to Lawrence and Kathryn McNeil. He grew up in Wheaton, Ill., and attended Wheaton Community High School. Steve also attended Ball State University and Northern Illinois University. Steve proudly served in the U.S. Air Force as a fuel systems mechanic, retiring in 1998 after 20 years of service.
Steve was very interested in military history and enjoyed strategic games, including chess and military-themed board games. He also was a Chicago Cubs fan.
Steve was married to Deborah Strippy, now Deborah McNeil, in August 1973. In October 2013, Steve was married to Dana Milota.

Thank you to the staff at the VA hospital and Pearl Valley Rehabilitation for the care given to Steve in these last few months.
