Steven Lynn McMurrin, 67, of Independence, IA – Otterville, died Saturday, January 25, 2025.
Celebration of Life will be 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the Hook ‘n Liner in Littleton, IA.
Steve was born July 18, 1957, in Cedar Rapids, IA, the son of Neil Grant McMurrin and Doris Maria (Parshal) McMurrin. He attended Jefferson High School in Independence and graduated with the Class of 1975. He continued his education at Hawkeye Institute of Technology in Waterloo, IA, before becoming a machinist. He worked for many years at Pries Enterprises in Independence, before taking a position with Ideal Industries in Vinton, IA. Steve was united in marriage to Sandra Kay Schmitz on October 9, 2004, on the family’s farm in rural Independence, IA, where they made their home.
Steve is survived by his wife, Sandra McMurrin of Independence; five children, Cylvi (Tondrell) Gary, Justin (Stacey) McMurrin, Daniel (Megan) Straw, Sr., Caleb (Valentina) McMurrin, Sr., Jessica (Jason) Peterson; nine grandchildren with one on the way; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carla McMurrin, Marla Bonebrake; two brothers, Darrin (Melanie) McMurrin, Tim McMurrin; also two sisters-in-law, Kris McMurrin, Linda Palmer.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Clint Straw; three brothers, David McMurrin, Randy McMurrin, and Douglas McMurrin.
