Steven L. Balster, Age 75, of Cedar Rapids, passed away at his home in Cedar Rapids, IA on Monday, August 19, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2024, from 6:30-8:30 PM at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories on Friday, September 6, 2024, at 11 AM with Pastor Dave Snyder officiating. Inurnment to follow at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery-Lakeview
Steven was born on August 9, 1949, in Harlan, IA. He was the son of the late Theodore and Kathryn (Selvidge) Balster. He attended Shelby High School before enrolling at Iowa Western, then obtained a bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University. In his younger years, Steven enjoyed bowling and horseshoes. He was a veteran in the US Air Force where he served as a Sergent. While in the service, Steven played basketball in Japan. On August 24, 1974, Steven married the love of his life, Sherry Jo Karg in Clarinda, Iowa. Steven attended Stonebridge Church for many years, as well as being a member of Bible Study Fellowship. His favorite activity was to play with his grandchildren, his nieces and his nephews.
Those left to cherish Steven’s memory is his wife, Sherry Jo, of Cedar Rapids, IA; his son, Bryce (Lindsay Hudson) Balster, of Cedar Rapids, IA; his grandchildren, Micheal and Grace; his siblings, Larry (Gretchen) Balster, of Scottsdale, AZ, and Kennon (Kate) Balster, of Blanchard, IA, and David (Barb) Balster, of Des Moines, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Jimmie Balster.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, may be made in his name to Trinity Lutheran School.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at UnityPoint hospice for all the love, care, and support they showed Steven while he was in their care.
