Steven P. Kirby, 64, of Independence, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2018, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence.
Steven was born Feb. 25, 1954, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Charles M. and Charlotte A. (McCann) Kirby. He was raised in Quasqueton, Iowa, and attended the East Buchanan County School District. After he finished attending school, he worked as a janitor at Quasqueton school and did carpentry for Main Construction in Independence. Steven enjoyed working with his hands, and for many years he worked from home as auto mechanic. In 1974, he married Cheryl Fox. They later divorced. Steven married Marvis L. Straw in Quasqueton, on June 8, 1991. They made their home in Independence.
He is survived by his wife, Marvis Kirby, Independence; his children, Travis Kirby, Independence, Kota Winchester, Independence, and Cheyenne Kirby, Stillwater, Minn., his grandchildren, Zane Kirby, Zachary Kirby, Jacob Conner, Kristina Brown, Darrian Kirby, Braiden Kirby, Kaleb Kirby and Patrick Kirby; his siblings, Sheldon Kirby, Oelwein, Dorance Kirby, Quasqueton, and Diana King, Quasqueton; and many nieces and nephews.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents, Charles M. and Charlotte A. Kirby; and his grandparents, Myrtle McCann and Maurice McCann
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, at the Tom and Deb Erickson residence, 2618 Stewart Ave., Winthrop, IA 50682.
