Steven Fred Bennett, 71, of West Chester, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018, at United Presbyterian Home in Washington, Iowa, following a battle with glioblastoma brain cancer. Memorial service for Steven will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1226 E. Washington St., Washington, Iowa. Following the service, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the church. Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Riverside Public Cemetery with military rites. Memorials have been established for the Immanuel Lutheran Church or Hospice of Washington County. Steven Fred Bennett was born on July 8, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Vernon Steve and Dorothy Ann (Jagim) Bennett. Steven was a graduate of Iowa City High School and attended the University of Iowa. Steven married Yvonne Coon and later married Barbara Walker. On April 9, 1993, he married Marilyn Joan Rummelhart (Gerot) of Riverside, Iowa. Steven served his country in the United States Navy. Steven apprenticed as pressman for Iowa City Press-Citizen. He also had worked at Universal Climate Control in Coralville and at Foreman-Climate Engineers Inc. in Cedar Rapids, where he evaluated design problems with engineers and architects. Before retiring, Steven worked at Rockwell Collins on circuit boards. Steven had performed in the Jazz Big Band at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids.
Steven will be deeply missed by his wife, Marilyn of West Chester; sons, Craig Alan Mitchell of Texas and Steven William Bennett of Coralville; daughter, Rebecca Lynn Brusky of Aurora, Ill.; stepson, Bret (Andrew Rasey) Rummelhart of Wilmington, Del.; stepdaughters, Wendy Walker, Paula Marie (Michael) Brinning of Keota and Julie Ann (Rummelhart) Smith of Lewisville, Texas; sister, Cheryl Bennett Fenderson of Davenport, Iowa; brother, Timothy J. (Debra) Bennett of Leander, Texas; grandchildren, Henry Frederick and Claudia Rayne Brusky; four stepgrandchildren, Kelsey (Bryce) Stout, Kyle Joseph and Christina Marie Brinning and Zackary Willis Smith; and two nephews, Tim and Chris Fenderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sharon; and stepson, David Walker.
The family wishes to express their grateful appreciation to the United Presbyterian Home in Washington, Iowa, and Hospice of Washington County for their loving care.
We will deeply miss Steve. He was always there with a helping hand to family and friends. Ellie, his Westie, was his buddy.
