Steve L. Stickley, 68, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, at Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services: 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. The family requests in Steve's memory that friends and family come in casual attire.
Steve was born Aug. 10, 1949, in Anamosa, Iowa, the son of Dale and Florence (Thompson) Stickley. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1970. Steve married Kathy Quick on Aug. 10, 1976, in Rock Island, Ill. He was a machine operator at Quaker Oats for 40 years before he retired in 2014.
Steve was an avid fisherman. You could find him with a line out in Elkader and he especially enjoyed trout fishing at Backbone State Park in Strawberry Point and Fountain Springs in Manchester. The biggest fish he caught was in the Turkey River.
Steve was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and NASCAR and the time he spent in his garden was peaceful.
Steve is survived by his wife, Kathy Stickley of Cedar Rapids; children, Kelly (Bryan) Grulkey of Cedar Rapids and Chris (Stacey) Porter of LeClaire; grandchildren, Logan Bradley, Brayden and Bryley Grulkey of Cedar Rapids and Wiley Porter and Kenzie Porter of LeClaire; siblings, Robert Stickley of Cedar Rapids, Carole (Jerry) Brislawn of Troy Mills, David (Carole) Stickley of Cedar Rapids, Mary (Lance) Johnson of Milwaukee, Wis., Debra (Russell) Manson of Manchester and Vivian (Craig) Blair of Marion; sister-in-law, Brenda Quick of Cedar Rapids; many nieces and nephews; and many, many friends, especially the Russ Beck family of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law, JoAnne George.
