Steve Smith, 67, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2016, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 3, at New Disciples Church, 621 Edgewood Rd. NW, Cedar Rapids, conducted by the Rev. Stasia Fine. Visitation: 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 3, at the church. Arrangements made by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Debbie Smith of Cedar Rapids; children, Matthew (Kendra) Smith of Kansas City, Mo., Dawn Smith of Kansas City and Kevin (Holly) Smith of Kansas City; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Seghal, Brianna Smith, Jackie Bovard, Alex Smith, Josephine Smith and Andrew Smith; great-grandchild, Thea Rae Bovard; brothers, Lee Smith Jr. of Iowa City and David (Tracy) Smith of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Shirley.
Steve was born Oct. 27, 1948, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Lee and Clair (Tufts) Smith. He married Debbie Bergsmith on July 17, 1999, at the Cedar Christian Church in Cedar Rapids. Steve was a salesman for many years. He enjoyed Bazooka Bubblegum, Christmas, the Iowa Hawkeyes and raising Siberian Huskies. Steve also enjoyed talking on the phone and was a great conversationalist.
Steve will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A special thank-you to the Hospice House and everyone at Mercy Hospice for taking such good care of Steve.
