STEVE LONG
Cedar Rapids
Steve Long, 63, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Tama, passed away Friday, March 23, 2018, at his home. A memorial visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 29, at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. Private interment will be held at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Tama.
Steve was born in Marshalltown, Iowa, on Nov. 30, 1954, to Audrey Wheeler and Dick Long. Steve grew up in Tama and attended school at South Tama County High School. Steve also proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1974 to 1976. Following his honorable discharge, he found most satisfaction in a hard day's work in the automotive industry, where he owned a detail and glass repair business (SWR). Steve was very proud of his many customer relationships he developed over the years. Steve enjoyed NASCAR and a good old western movie. Steve had fond memories of family holidays and days spent at uncle Larry and aunt Sharon's farm. He was especially proud of his family.
Survivors include his mother, Audrey Wheeler of Urbandale; brother, Dave (Ann) Long of Urbandale; sister, Debbie (Steve) Phipps of Waukee; nieces, Rachel (Paul) Wampler and Natalie Long of West Des Moines; and great-niece, Pippa Rae Wampler.
Preceding him in death was his father, Dick; step-father, Terry Wheeler; and sister, Kathryn Long.
A memorial fund has been established.
A special thank you to Gracie Ford, who was a very good and loyal friend to Steve for many years.
