Steve Gaffney, 69, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, Sept. 3, 2018, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. A Celebration of Life will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood, Cedar Rapids, with a time of sharing at 6:30 p.m. The family requests casual wear.
Steve was born March 13, 1949, in Independence, Iowa, the son of Bertrand "Jake" and Betty Jo (Hickman) Gaffney. After graduating from East Buchanan High School in 1967, Steve went on to attend Iowa State University. He served our country honorably from 1970 to 1972 in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Chicago during the Vietnam War. Steve farmed in the Winthrop, Iowa, area for 50 years. Upon retiring from farming, he worked for Walmart in the auto care department. Steve was a member of the "Potts Party."
Steve is survived by his wife, Ann Klever; step-daughter, Kris Barz, and her children, Tyler and Cody Barz; mother, Betty Jo Gaffney; sister, Teri (Tom) Brickley, and their son, Adam (Jessica) Brickley, and their children, Cullen and Charlotte; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jake Gaffney; and son-in-law, Pete Barz.
