Steve Brodie, 74, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2022, at Mercy Medical Center. Celebration of Life gathering will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, at The Avacentre at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Private family inurnment will be at a later date. Steve was born June 8, 1947, in Oklahoma City, Okla., the son of John and Dorothy (Griffith) Brodie. He served in the U.S. Army from 1967-69, during the Vietnam conflict. Steve was united in marriage to Bonnie Van Slyke on Oct. 20, 1967, in Iowa City. He was over the road truck driver for nearly 50 years, including at ABC Disposal, Hummer, Foodliner and Dawes Transportation. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, reading books, playing cribbage and scrabble and, most of all, spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren.
Steve is survived by his wife, Bonnie; children, Tammy Munson, Kathryn (James) Butts, Renee (Don) Fritz, Daniel (Lori) Brodie, Cynthia (Brian) Jack and Warren (Teri) Brodie; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; his siblings as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister.
