Sternad, Barbara Kay Meade
Barbara Kay Meade Sternad, 76, died peacefully Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at her home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at St. Peter's in Cosgrove, with the Rev. Edmond Dunn officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Iowa City. Visitation will be Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, where a Parish vigil service will be held at 7 p.m.
Barbara was born Sept. 18, 1935, in Iowa City, to Cletus James and Esther (Stanton) Meade. She graduated from Cosgrove High School in 1953. Barb married Donald William Sternad on Dec. 13, 1954, in Fairfax. Donald died in 1983.
Barb was employed for over 35 years at Procter & Gamble Co., Iowa City, retiring in 1990.
Barb and Donnie liked to camp and fish. Barb loved to dance with Donnie, and in later years with her dear friend, Duane Stock. She loved her home and seldom traveled except to Texas where she enjoyed the time spent with Steve, Kathy, Matt and Katie.
Most important in Barb's life was her daughter, son, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
Survivors include one daughter, Deborah Sternad Wyatt (Steve Bergerud) of Iowa City; one son, Steven (Kathy) Sternad of Austin, Texas; four grandchildren, Matthew (Jennifer) Sternad and Katie (Tom) Barnett, both of Austin, Texas, Brianna Wyatt (Michael Warren) and Melissa Wyatt Clark, both of Iowa City; four great-grandchildren, Steven, Lauren, Maya and Wyatt and one expectant great-granddaughter; her special friend, Duane Stock of Coralville; three sisters, Donna Mae and Dorothy Jane Meade, both of North Liberty, and Mary Sue (Amos) Miller of Tucson, Ariz.; four brothers, Gerald “Jerry” (Mary) Meade of West Liberty, Loren (Elaine) Meade, La Vern “Butch” (Ginny) Meade and Richard (Sharon) Meade, all of the Cosgrove area; sister-in-law, Elaine Ewert of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her parents; in-laws, Bill and Wilma Sternad; her brother, Duane Cletus Meade; brother-in-law, Ron Ewert; and two nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Meals on Wheels or Iowa City Hospice.
