Steitz, Helen M.
Helen M. Steitz, 91, of 3312 Emerson Dr. NE, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Jonathon Offt will officiate. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church after 9 a.m. Saturday. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include her children, Charles (Julia) Steitz, Ron (Debbie) Steitz, Pamella (Bill) Delaney and Wanda (Bill) Lunn, all of Cedar Rapids, Dennis (Amy) Steitz of Lancaster, Calif., Jerry (Nancy) Sonkens of Salt Lake City, Utah, Richard Clar of Delhi, Iowa, and Shirley Funte of Monticello, Iowa; two brothers, Roland Clar of Marshalltown, Iowa, and James (Minnie) Clar of Cedar Rapids; 22 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell; a son, Marlyn; seven brothers; one sister; and three grandchildren.
Helen was born Feb. 21, 1918, in rural Green Mountain, Iowa, to Henry and Agnes Clar. She married Russell Steitz on Feb. 9, 1941, in Marshalltown. He died Oct. 10, 1991. She was a homemaker and nurse's aide. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 58 years. She played many musical instruments by ear. She enjoyed crocheting, taking pictures, traveling, and especially caring for her family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran School.
