Steichen, Maryan Rose 'Grandma'
Maryan Rose Steichen “Grandma,” 86, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, surrounded by her loved ones. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at St. Ludmila's Catholic Church with burial to follow in St. Johns Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, where there will be a 3 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. parish vigil.
Maryan was born Oct. 8, 1926, in Granville, the daughter of John Peter and Catherine (Nichel) Schwebach. She married Arthur Steichen on May 8, 1946 in Granville. Maryan and her family attended St. Ludmila's Catholic Church raising 10 children. She loved to cook and bowled three days a week. She worked Mercy Home Health Care for over 15 years. She always enjoyed helping people in need. Maryan always was the clown to everyone. If you ever met her, she was unforgettable. She had a smart answer for everything. God had called her up as her job was done on Earth. She was the cornerstone of our family. Lincolnway will never be the same without her.

Maryan is survived by her children, Dennis (Millie) Steichen of Swisher, Roy (Lisa) Steichen, Sam (Karleen) Steichen, John Steichen, Jeff Steichen, Doris Steichen, Mary (Rod) Grother and Sheri (Jeff) Wilde all of Cedar Rapids, and Gail (Tony) Schatz of Mandan, N.D.; 33 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Alvina Berning and Iva (Ray) Goergan both of Minnesota.
Maryan was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur, who died Sept., 26, 1999; her son Dale, who died Dec. 17, 1966; a great-granddaughter, Cheyanne; and her three brothers and three sisters.
