Steffen, Erwin G.
Erwin G. Steffen, 63, of 314 Sixth Ave. NE, Dyersville, Iowa, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, at 2:25 a.m., at his home in Dyersville, surrounded by his family. Friends and relatives of Erwin may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, at the Reiff Funeral Home in Dyersville, where a wake service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Services for Erwin will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Basilica of St. Francis Xavier in Dyersville, with the Rev. Dennis Quint officiating. Burial will be held in St. Francis Cemetery in Dyersville, Iowa.
Erwin was born July 19, 1950, in Independence, Iowa, son of Reynold and Frances (Riniker) Steffen. He received his education in the Ryan and Maquoketa Valley Schools. On Aug. 24, 1974, he was united in marriage to Dianne at the Basilica of St. Francis Xavier in Dyersville. He was employed at John Deere Dubuque Works and farmed for 20 years. He then worked for Crop Production Services for the last 15 years.
He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish in Dyersville and the Dyersville Knights of Columbus-Council #1734.
He is survived by his wife, Dianne Steffen of Dyersville; four daughters, Stephanie Steffen and Nichole Steffen, both of Dyersville, Melissa (Jeff) Kremer of Worthington and Amanda Steffen (and fiance, Terry Willenborg) of Dubuque; four grandchildren, Thomas, Brittany, Jonathon and Wyatt; and sisters and brothers, Carolyn (Clem) Ryan of Swisher, Patricia Ann Strait of Preston, Vernon (Christine) Steffen of Racine, Wis., David (Connie) Steffen of Garber, Madonna (Donald) Scherbring and Joyce (Robert) Killers, both of Guttenberg, Irene Deppe of Jordon, Minn., Doris (Mark) Vaske of Durango, Lynn (Joseph) Hermsen of Farley, Merlin (Nancy) Steffen of Hudson, Wis., Dale Steffen of Sabula and Joseph Steffen of Charlotte.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Viola Steffen; and a brother-in-law, Ronnie Strait.
