Ethel M. “Mike” Steele
Ethel Walters Steele died peacefully at The Meth-Wick Community on Monday, Jan. 21, 2013. She was 104.
Mike was born May 15, 1908, in Chicago, to William and Josephine (McGowan) Walters. She moved to the Anamosa area as a child and later lived in Marion and graduated from Marion High School.
Mike married Harry Steele on July 16, 1927. They moved to Cedar Rapids in 1929. Mike was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, St. Luke's Auxiliary, Chapter FO of PEO Meth-Wick Auxiliary and Kensington of St. Paul's.
Survivors include a son, H. William (Joyce Lamb) of Florida; daughter-in-law, Isabel of Minnesota; four grandchildren, Peter (Mary Kay) of Indiana, Kevin (Kim) of Iowa, Julie Steele of Tennessee and Jeff Steele and Doug Lesky of Tennessee. There are four great-grandchildren. Mike also has two brothers, Leonard and Joseph.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; son, Robert; and grandson, Michael.
Services will be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, with a reception to follow at the church.
Contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, The Meth-Wick Foundation or Hospice of Mercy.
