Steele, Cory C.
HIAWATHA - Cory C. Steele, 40, of Hiawatha, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, in Cedar Rapids as the result of a motorcycle accident. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. The Rev. Carroll Brown will officiate. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
Survivors include a daughter, Ashley, and a son, Tyler; his mother, Linda Becker of Shellsburg; his father and stepmother, Larry and Phyllis Steele of Iowa City; four brothers, Chad (Alice) Steele of Lacey, Wash., Brian (Jessica) Steele of Warrensburg, Mo., Dustin (Jenny) Becker of Atkins and Adam (Beth) Steele of Norway. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Avery, Carson, Jordan, Jaydan, Bryant, Dylan, Nathan; and a niece who is on the way, Madison; many cousins to include a special cousin, John Hartl; and many aunts and uncles to include a special aunt, Joanne Yeater. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Tammy.
Cory was born March 27, 1970, in Iowa City, the son of Larry and Linda Techau Steele, and graduated from Prairie High School. He married Michelle Valentine in 1989 in Cedar Rapids. They were later divorced. Cory was an inspector with Black Hawk Sprinkler in Cedar Falls for several years. He was a member of Local 669 of the Sprinklerfitters Union, very active in the Combat Vets Motorcycle Association of Iowa, Chapter 39-1 and was an avid Steelers fan. He proudly served in the Army during Desert Storm.
Cory was an outstanding father, son, brother, uncle and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial fund has been established for Cory's children.
