Starr, Ronald G.
Ronald G. Starr, 62, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, after a courageous battle with lymphoma. Graveside Services will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7. Visitation will be held Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Ron was the son of Merle and Arda Starr, born in Yankton, S.D. April 20, 1950 and then later moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Ron entered the U.S. Navy Dec. 23, 1968. He served during the Vietnam conflict for two years. Ron lived in Fort Worth, Texas, for many years and worked as a forklift operator at Pepsi. He later moved to Dubuque, and worked at Sunnycrest Manor and worked with the handicapped, which he loved. Ron enjoyed fishing with family and friends, Lynyrd Skynyrd and THE IOWA HAWKEYES.
Surviving are his siblings, Laurie (Starr) Boone of Cedar Rapids, and Jeffrey Morgan (Dawn Petersen) of Marion. Ronald was the proud uncle of many nieces and nephews, Leslie (Boone) Fisher (Bill Bahls), Ashley (Boone) Robertson (Bryan) and Brittany Nicklas. Great-nephews and nieces, Alec Boone, Raquel Fisher, Brynden Fisher, Mason Bahls, Lacey Durgin, Lainey Robertson, Julian Scott and Adelyn Robertson. Ron will be missed by many family and friends, most by his closest friend, Tim (his African Gray Parrot).
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Richard; infant sisters, Nadine and Robin; grandma and grandpa Starr; grandma and grandpa Lange; and brother-in-law, Steven Boone.
The family would like to give special thanks to The VA Hospital in Iowa City, St. Luke's Hospice and Manor Care Cedar Rapids.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ron's honor may be made to the American Cancer Society Iowa or the VA Hospital in Iowa City to help with his fellow veterans.
Family would like to request that you wear Iowa Hawkeye attire to the Visitation in honor of Ron's love of the Hawkeyes.
