Starks, Virginia E.
Virginia E. Starks, 86, formerly of Springville, and a resident of Irving Point, Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, March 26, 2011, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, following a long illness. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, at Springville United Methodist Church, by Elder Starks, High Priest of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Evangelist Wanda Krapfl and Senior Pastor Rustin Krapfl. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, and one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday. Burial: Springville Cemetery, Springville.
Survivors include her children, Virginia (Larry) Burkey of Rowley, Linda (Skip) Butler of Wheatridge, Colo., Wanda (Donald) Krapfl of Cedar Rapids, Edwin “Butch” Starks of Cedar Rapids, Ethel Jones of North Liberty, Richard J. (Angie Simoens) Starks of Cedar Rapids and Russell (Lori) Starks of Ely; a sister, Opal (Robert) Mercer of Kalona; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren, and one on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by parents; her husbands; infant son, Donald Akers Jr.; four brothers, Clifford, Edward, Vernon and Russell; and a sister, Pauline.
Virginia was born April 8, 1924, the daughter of Algia and Marjorie (Livingston) Miner, in Springville, Iowa. She attended Waubeek Country School. Virginia married Donald Akers, who was killed in World War II. She then married Richard Starks Sr. on Feb. 6, 1946, in Lancaster, Mo. He died Feb. 9, 2005.
Virginia was a member of the Springville United Methodist Church, Rebekah Lodge, Royal Neighbors, and the Red Hat Club from Irving Point.
