Stanley “Stan” Barta, 77, of Iowa City, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026. A Celebration of Life will be held on January 17, 2026, from 11:00 – 1:00 p.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Chapel in Solon.
Stan was born and raised in Solon, Iowa, on his parents’ century farm. Stan married his wife, Jackie Maher, on November 9, 1968, and had 2 sons, Chad and Cory, and later a granddaughter, Emma.
Stan worked as an electrician for IBEW Local 405, where he was a 54-year member. He also worked for Wears Auctioneering for 25+ years, this was a job he loved and he enjoyed all the people, atmosphere and, most of all, collecting antiques with his wife, Jackie.
Stan loved the outdoors, his yard, and the Hawkeyes. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and finding elusive mushrooms. In his later years, you could find them in his neighbors’ driveways gathering to socialize or solving the world’s problems.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Lily; wife, Jackie; 2 sisters-in-law, Joyce and Rosemary, and a brother-in-law, Jerry.
Stan is survived by his sons, Chad and Cory (Tammy); his siblings, Allen (Sharlye), Richard, Jeff (Judi), Nancy (Bob), and Linda; his cherished granddaughter, Emma. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews; and special friend and traveling partner, Bonnie Pitz.
Memorial donations may be directed to Sts. Peter and Paul Chapel in Solon.
