Marvin Eugene Stanek was born July 13, 1934, in Toddville, Iowa, the son of Elmer and Vera (Bowers) Stanek. He married Jeanette Marie Kerns on Feb. 25, 1956, in Independence. Marvin farmed north of Hazleton for many years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein.
Marvin enjoyed visiting with family and friends. When you came to visit, it was hard to get away and he would follow you out to your car still visiting. He enjoyed fishing, dancing, and going to farm sales. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Jeanette Stanek of Hazleton; six children, Dixie (Lyle) Riggle of Independence, Debra (Durango) Steggall of Oelwein, Sharon Christensen of West Des Moines, Diana (Tim) Levendusky of Fairbank, Dwayne (Teresa) Stanek of Prairie du Chien, Wis., and Jane Roushdi of Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Bill Stanek of Springville, Jim (Alice) Stanek of Oelwein, and Harold Stanek and Roger Stanek, both of Aurora; and a sister, Marge (Merwin) Zerba of Hiawatha.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers (Melvin, Alvin and Raymond, all in infancy, and Frank Stanek) and a sister (Carolyn Hovey).
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
