Stallman, Gerald B.
Gerald B. Stallman, 81, of Fairfax, died Monday, March 14, 2011, at Heritage Nursing & Rehab Center in Cedar Rapids after a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Fairfax, by the Rev. Dustin Vu. Friends may visit today at John XXIII Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Military honors presented by American Legion Pekomy Post 572. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Gerald is survived by his five children, Lynette (Tom) Scheetz of Oxford, Randy (Rhonda) Stallman of Shellsburg, Kay (Rick) Baskerville of Palo, Janine Stallman of Sterling, Va., and Gerilyn Stallman (Paul) of Glen Carbon, Ill.; six grandchildren, Matthew (Courtney), David (Kristin), Kristopher (Amber), Christine, Andrew and Alexander; two great-grandchildren, Addilyn and Evan; five siblings, Firmin (Barbara) Stallman of Center Point, William (Charlene) Stallman of Fairfax, Germaine (Louis) Keiper of Palo, Margaret (Francis) Cejka of Fairfax and Ida (Leonard) Shonka of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
Gerald was preceded in death by his four brothers, Carl, James, David and Robert; two sisters, Marie and Eleanor; and daughter-in-law, Diane Stallman.
Gerald Bernard Stallman was born Jan. 13, 1930, in Fairfax, son of Charles and Margaret (Schulte) Stallman. He was in the U.S. Army. Gerald farmed and retired from Wilson's Foods.
Gerald was an avid gardener who loved to share the fruits of his labors with others. He walked daily until he was no longer physically able. He enjoyed mushroom hunting and playing tennis, ping-pong and bowling.
Gerald's family would like to thank Rock Ridge Residential Care Center, Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center and Hospice of Mercy.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Gerald's name.
