He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 50 years, V.J.
Melvin John Stadtmueller was born April 26, 1937, at the John McDonald Hospital in Monticello, Iowa. He was the son of Clarence and Ruby (Rickels) Stadtmueller. He received his early education in the rural schools of Castle Grove Township. Mick graduated from the Monticello Community Schools with the class of 1955. He then went to work for Cuckler Buildings in Monticello.
Mick married Vera Janaan Bacon on Feb. 16, 1958. The couple lived in Monticello where Mick continued to work at Cuckler's until he began his career at Iowa Prison Industries in Anamosa. Mick and V.J. also owned and operated the Monty Cafe for 18 years and he served as a volunteer fireman for the Monticello Fire Department from 1960 to 1977. Before (and after) his retirement from Iowa Prison Industries, Mick could be found working away in “The Factory” on a project or inviting company over for a corn boil or steak fry.
Mick loved his Chicago Cubs and Bears, a great game of Euchre, a wisecracking joke, his beloved wife of half a century and his family and friends. He will be greatly missed and remembered as a caring husband, a generous father, a fun-loving grandpa, but most of all, everyone's friend.
