Spurlock, Kathryn J. 'Kay'

Kathryn J. “Kay” Spurlock, 61, of Riverside, died Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City. Kathryn chose to be cremated. Burial will be next spring in the Shattuck Grove Cemetery in Belvidere, Ill. Her family will host a celebration at that time also.

Memorials may be directed to The Kathryn “Kay” Spurlock Memorial Fund.

Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City is handling arrangements.

Kay was born Oct. 10, 1952, in Belvidere, Ill., the daughter of Edward and Josephine (Alsup) Hennessey. Growing in Ottawa, Ill., she graduated from Ottawa Township High School in 1970 and later received her associate degree in computer science from Illinois Valley Community College.

She was married to James V. Spurlock for 10 years and together they had five children. The couple later divorced.

She is survived by her children, son, James Spurlock Sr. (Sunae) of Pekin, Ill.; daughters, Terry Spurlock, Sheryl Evans (Tim) and Mary Evans (Jeremy), all of Lone Tree and Kathleen Spurlock of Iowa City; a brother, William E. Spurlock Sr. (Patty) of Utica, Ill.; and 10 grandchildren.

Kay was preceded in death by an infant brother and her parents.
