Sproul, Dr. Dean Hamilton

Dr. Dean Hamilton Sproul, 71, of Cedar Rapids, died at home Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012. Celebration of Life: 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Stonebridge Church by the Rev. Randy Scheil. Visitations will be held at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and at the church on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

Dean is survived by his wife, Maggie; stepchildren, Jennifer, Ben, Joe and Kate; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Lynne; and a sister, Patricia Wise.

Dean was born July 31, 1941, in Evanston, Ill., to Malcolm and Helen Sproul. He attended Loyola University in the School of Dentistry, where he received his Ph.D. Dean married Lynn Price in 1965. She died in 1997. Dean served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve Dental Corps as a first lieutenant from 1967 to 1980, and was an Air Force veteran of Vietnam. Dean had a private dental practice in La Crosse, Wis., from 1967 to 1992, when he retired. He married Margaret Morris on June 28, 2000, in Kansas City, Mo.

After moving to Cedar Rapids in 2000, Dean was very active in Stonebridge Church and the Linn County Evangelical Association. He moved to Anchorage, Alaska in 2003 to serve with SEND International as a host to Alaskan bush missionaries until 2007.
