Spratt, Helen A.
Helen A. Spratt, 91, formerly of Maynard, Iowa, died Saturday evening, Sept. 28, 2013, in Hallmar at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Graveside Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein, with Deacon Jim Patera officiating. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein. Parish Scripture Service: 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment: Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein.
A memorial fund has been established for Alzheimer's research.

Helen Alverda Duhme was born Dec. 7, 1921, in Maquoketa, Iowa, the daughter of Frederick and Mary (Campbell) Duhme. She graduated from Maquoketa High School and then from Jane Lamb Nursing School in Clinton with her registered nurse degree. Helen was united in marriage to Bernard Leo Spratt Sr. on Sept. 22, 1945 in Oxford, Iowa. Helen worked as a nurse at the hospital in Davenport. Helen and Bernard farmed at rural Maquoketa, Oxford and then moved their family to rural Oelwein in 1962 where they farmed for many years.
Helen was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and rosary Society. She enjoyed gardening, ceramics and caring for her family.
Helen is survived by her three daughters, Diana (Chet) Trembley of Cedar Rapids, Patricia (Ozzie) Ohl of Mason City and LuAnn (Michael) Kuennen of Palo; son, Dale (Elizabeth) Spratt of Oelwein; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Arlene Tegmeier of Morristown, Minn.; brother, Albert (Margaret) Duhme of Maquoketa; brother-in-law, Daniel Blatt of Olympia, Wash.; sister-in-law, Winifred Holland of Iowa City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bernard Spratt Sr. on Oct. 15, 1994; and son, Bernard Spratt Jr. on July 18, 2010.
