Spike, Charles 'Charlie' Kent
Charles “Charlie” Kent Spike, 82, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Brosh Chapel, temporarily located at 3100 F Ave. NW. Burial: Fort Dodge Memorial Cemetery, Fort Dodge. Visitation will be one hour before services at the Chapel. Full military rites will be conducted by the Hanford American Post 5.
Charles was born May 20, 1927, in Fort Dodge, the son of Earl and Evelyn Ekstrom Spike. Charles was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II. He married Luella Walrod on Jan. 1, 1948, in Fort Dodge. He was a tool and die maker for over 33 years at Square D, retiring in Jan. 4, 1993. Charlie was an avid bowler, playing bingo and enjoyed going out to eat. Charlie loved spending with the cats and dogs.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Luella, and his daughter, Cynthia Spike of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Howard Spike; and a sister, Betty Stufflebeam.
