Sperry, Madeline Marie

Madeline Marie Sperry, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at MeadowView Memory Care Village, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, conducted by the Rev. William B. Harnish. Family will greet friends from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, at the funeral home. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery, Williamsburg.

Surviving children are Shirley (Robert) Feiereisen of Walford and Virgil Ray (Karen) Sperry of Lafayette, Ga.; grandchildren, Wendy (John) Flanscha of North Liberty, Stacey (Scott) Williams of Cedar Rapids, Adam (Marwick) Sperry of North Hollywood, Calif., and Cindy Sperry of Alexandria, Va.; great-grandchildren, Randy, Crystal, Madeline, Mason, Cole and Mikaela; siblings, Don Griffin and Dorothy Bennett, both of Cedar Rapids; and sisters-in-law, Gayle Griffin of Dysart and Nina Jusman of San Diego, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, James, John and Eugene; and two sisters, Mary and Ida Joan.

Madeline was born May 10, 1922, in Parnell, Iowa, daughter of James and Sadie (Mincer) Griffin. She worked at Wilson Foods for 36 years, retiring in 1983. Madeline was married to Clyde Sperry on Sept. 15, 1941.

She enjoyed socializing with friends and family, including playing Bingo. She also liked to travel to California, Georgia and Malaysia.
