Spenler, Lorene E.
Lorene E. Spenler, 90, of Iowa City, died Friday, June 25, 2010, at Lantern Park Nursing and Rehab Center in Coralville. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Lorene's memory to Iowa City Hospice.

Lorene Elizabeth Blumenstein was born March 5, 1920, in West Chester, Iowa, the daughter of Glen and Myrtle (Taylor) Blumenstein. She was united in marriage to Norman Spenler on Jan. 9, 1940, in Iowa City. The couple raised their family here and resided here until moving to Cherokee Village, Ark., in 1978, following Norman's retirement from Conoco. They lived there until moving back to Iowa City in 1997. They were members of First United Methodist Church in Iowa City and Cherokee Village United Methodist Church in Arkansas.
Her family includes three daughters, Janis Parker (Dan) of Davenport, Jane Knoedel of Coralville and June Kinney (Mike) of Naples, Fla.; son-in-law, Max Abildtrup of McGregor; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norman in 1997; daughter, Judy Abildtrup in 2006; brother, Harold Blumenstein; and great-granddaughter, Rachel Moore.
