Spencer, Thelma Lucille (Micou)
Thelma Lucille (Micou) Spencer, 91, formerly of 1995 25th Ave., Marion, died Thursday, March 26, 2010, at Crestview Acres, Marion. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, April 3, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 7121 Mount Vernon Rd. SE, Cedar Rapids, by Terry Houser Sr. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 2, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, and one hour before the service Saturday at the Kingdom Hall. Inurnment will be at a later date.
Survivors include her children, Burma (Ed) Willingham and Ernestine Spencer, both of Marion; four grandchildren, Bernard (LaVetti) Willingham, Tracey (Wesley) Williams, Mark Willingham and Angela Spencer; seven great-grandchildren, Tyesha, Keithan, Amber, Essence, Chanel, Chavon and JaBria; numerous great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, William; and two sisters, Wilma and Myrtle.
Thelma was born Dec. 22, 1918, the daughter of Humphrey and Eula (Phillips) Micou, in Waterloo, Iowa. She graduated from East High School in Waterloo in 1939. She married Percy Spencer in 1940 in Waterloo. They later divorced. Thelma was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1952 and served faithfully until her death. Thelma was known for her cooking and love of children.
A memorial fund has been established in Thelma's memory.
