Spencer D. Etten, 51, of Shellsburg, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. A funeral service celebrating Spencer's life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. Michele Scott officiating. Burial will be in Parkers Grove Cemetery, rural Shellsburg. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of
Memories.
Survivors include his wife, Lisa; children, Sam Etten (fiancee Ashley) of Walford and Sydney (friend Brandt) Etten of Shellsburg; granddaughter, Gracie Etten; siblings, Sandy (Mitch) McGrath of Amana, Shirley (Randy) Peacock of Senoia, Ga., Steve (Jean) Etten of Covington, Scott (Ginger) Etten of Luzerne, Shari Morrison of Shellsburg and Henry (Elizabeth) Etten of Cedar Rapids; brother-in-law, Roger Goehring of Urbana; many nieces and nephews; and special companions, Millie and Suzie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sue Goehring.
Spencer D. Etten was born Aug. 13, 1962, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Marvin and Betty (Brignac) Etten. On May 11, 1985, he married Lisa Owens at Parkers Grove Baptist Church, rural Shellsburg. Spencer owned and operated Spencer Etten Construction for many years. He enjoyed fishing, working with his hands and loved helping others. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family and will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
