Spellerberg, Clarence J.
Clarence J. Spellerberg, 84, a resident of the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2011. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 14, at St. John's Catholic Church, Delhi, conducted by the Rev. John Kramer. Burial: Burial: St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Earlville. Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. today at Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Earlville.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene; children: Gary (Vicki) Spellerberg, Manchester; Eric Spellerberg, Blair, Neb.; Lisa (Steve) Dircks, Hopkinton, and Lynn (Bob) Gilson, San Antonio, Texas; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Matthew and Robert Spellerberg, Fairfax; and sisters, Dorothy Schulte, Norway, and Antoinette Kloubec, Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Brian; great-granddaughter, Drue; and two brothers: Richard and William.
Clarence was born Dec. 9, 1926, in rural Fairfax, the son of Matthew and Lydia (Kulhavy) Spellerberg. He married Arlene Bockenstedt on April 17, 1958, at the Basilica in Dyersville. Following their marriage they settled in Fairfax, moving in the spring of 1964 to a farm in rural Earlville until 1980, where they settled in Delhi, moving to Cottage Grove in Cedar Rapids in 2006. They have lived together at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester since July 2010.
Clarence enjoyed people, fishing, was an avid Cubs fan, card player, Hawkeye fan, and he always had a smile.
A memorial fund had been established in Clarence's memory.
