Sovers, Marcella A.
Marcella A. Sovers, 89 of Solon, died Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, at the Solon Nursing Care Center. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 25, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Solon. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Brosh Chapel in Solon with a vigil service starting at 7 p.m.
Marcella was born Nov. 16, 1921, in Oxford, the daughter of Frank J. and Margaret (Kloos) Tomas. She married Ralph Sovers on June 24, 1941, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Iowa City. She and her husband farmed for many years south of Solon. She was a member of the Solon American Legion Auxiliary and worked at the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge in Iowa City. She enjoyed cooking, dancing, polka music and caring for her pets. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends.
Marcella is survived by her grandsons, John (Susan) Sovers of Muscatine, Mark Sovers of Solon and Daniel (Michele) Sovers of Iowa City; granddaughter, Tricia (Sean) Lokmer of Cedar Rapids; great-grandchildren, Michael, Matthew Sovers and Patricia Lokmer, a sister, Gladys (Jim) Christensen; sister-in-law, Ruth Tomas; brother-in-law, Ray Williams; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; her son and daughter-in-law, Wes and Pat Sovers; and siblings, Adeline Williams, Frank Tomas and Chuck Tomas.
