Soukup, Joseph William
Joseph William Soukup, 34, formerly of Central City, passed away Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Prairieburg, by Father Wayne Droessler. Visitation follows the Mass on Wednesday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City.
Joseph William Soukup, son of Leon and Joyce (Carradus) Soukup, was born Nov. 11, 1976, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Central City, where he graduated from Central City High School in 1995. After high school, Joseph attended Ellsworth Community College on a fullride scholarship to play football. He transferred to Morningside College and played football for one year and then attended Missouri Valley College with a rodeo scholarship and later graduated with a business degree. He next went on to get his master's degree from Lindenwood University while he was the assistant rodeo coach at Missouri Valley College.
Joseph married Leslie Jones on June 8, 2000, in Allerton, Iowa. Joseph enjoyed rodeo, shed hunting and spending time with his family. He was part of the Wayne County FSA Committee, IRCA, PRCA, and a faithful member of his church and on the board of directors for high school rodeo. He also briefly taught as a college professor at Creston Community College and Indian Hills Community College.
Joseph owned and operated his own trucking business, convenience store, hunting lodge, as well as concession stands at the Iowa State Fair. He enjoyed driving for Hy-Vee part time and farming which was his favorite.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Leslie of Allerton; three daughters, Alex, Elie Joe and Jolie of Allerton; parents, Leon and Joyce Soukup of Central City; three sisters, Tammy (Mike) Dougherty of Coggon, Sara (Brad) Lehr of Central City and Katie (Jake) Stien of Waukee; one brother, John Soukup of Cedar Rapids; nieces and nephews, Tyler (Amanda) Dougherty, Megan and Siera Dougherty; two great-nieces; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Mildred Soukup, Francis and Jean Carradus and Bernita Carradus-Gollobit; and an infant brother, Daniel.
