Sorensen, Dorthy M.
Dorthy M. Sorensen, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, March 10, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services: 10 a.m. Monday, March 14, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer. Visitation: 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial: 2:30 p.m. Monday at Lawn Cemetery, Boxholm, Iowa.
Dorthy was born in 1924 to Ernest and Lena Swanson. She graduated from Lake View High School. On Aug. 19, 1945, she married Kenneth W. Sorensen in LuVerne, Iowa. He died April 29, 1999. In 1956, they moved to Cedar Rapids, where she worked for 31½ years at Pennick & Ford, retiring Nov. 1, 1987.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Anna Abigail Circle, Pennick & Ford Retirees, and Home Makers. She enjoyed quilting and reading.
Survivors include two sisters, Alice Lewis of Phoenix, Ariz., and Bonita Henderson of Orange, Calif.; many nieces and nephews; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenny; and two brothers-in-law, Keith Lewis and Alex Henderson.
A memorial fund has been established.
